Today we are talking all about boots; heeled boots, chelsea boots, knee high boots, all kinds of boots and why they’re so great!
Now I have been obsessed with boots my whole life, anyone who knows me can vouch for this. I spent a good chunk of my teenage years wearing only boots. I am not kidding, with EVERYTHING (it was not the greatest look) but that is how much I loved them. Now, I think I am more accustomed to whether a trainer should be a better option.
So let’s talk about boots.
The Ankle/ Chelsea Boot
This kind of boot is my go to boot. They’re great because they can be worn with almost anything. I have a pair of Dr Martens and not to sound dramatic but they are my life. I wear these boots EVERYWHERE! They go nicely with; jeans, skirts, dresses, jumpsuits, playsuits, midi skirts (I think I may have named all types of clothing there but you get my drift). If you were to only have one pair of boots ever,(which is a slightly worrying thought for me) then this is the boot.
I would also recommend investing in a brand like Dr Marten because although they are expensive, the amount of wear I get from them, plus the quality makes it so worth it.
Timberlands are also a great pair of boots, great quality and another investment I would say but they are more of a casual everyday winter boot. I wouldn’t recommend putting a dress on and going for a night on the town with them on (I’m sure the girls in their barely there heels would agree with me too on that)…
The Heeled Boot
The heeled boot is an essential for your wardrobe in my opinion. They are great because they look smart, are more supportive on your feet and if you get platform ones, they barely hurt your feet (I’m such a baby when it comes to heels hurting my feet). They’re great for dressing up an outfit or even dressing down, if you swap out a heel for them. They’re a staple for your wardrobe if you are just wanting the basics, because they are so versatile.
The Knee High Boot
Are so in right now. I wore them so much as a child that it took me a few years to get over the trauma and finally let a pair back into my wardrobe (we are talking bright pink tights and blue boots…)
Knee high boots are great because again they are so versatile. For me, I think they look good for a more casual look, with skirts and dresses. Also, I am not opposed to a nice pattern pair of tights to go with it.
They’re great for the winter, if we’re talking pragmatically, they keep your legs warm and dry. They can also smarten up your outfit a bit which is good if you wear them to work or to something that requires you to look smarter.
I got a great pair from Next in November. I had been on the hunt for a while, I knew I wanted black leather and most places weren’t selling them.
The Over the Knee High Boot
I went through a stage of being OBSESSED with over the knee high boots. When I was in my first year at uni, I wore them for almost every night out. I thought they were great because they looked so fancy but at the same time had no heel so were comfy af. Although, one issue I did have was that they would constantly fall down to my ankles, which wasn’t a good look at all and would look even worse when I’d had a lot to drink and didn’t care that they were swishing around my ankles.
I finally invested in a good pair, which had some good days and nights out but I don’t wear them as much anymore. However, it’s great to have them, especially in winter when want to wear a dress and they cover you up from the cold a bit more, or if you can’t be bothered to shave your legs…
My one tip for these boots is, when you buy them, give them the jump test. Jump up and down on the spot and if they fall down, DON’T keep them! They will be the bane of your life every time you wear them if you do.
The Statement Boot
A statement boot can be any kind of boot I have just mentioned. What I love about them is they can make a really simple outfit even better and so easily. My issue with statement boots is that I keep buying them and because they’re so out there, they aren’t getting the wear they deserve since most of the outfits I wear anyway are a bit out there too.
For example; I am on my second pair of white boots… is that really necessary? No, I mean you might think that until you see the boots…
When looking for statement boots, I would say look on places like Depop. A lot of people buy these kinds of boots with the intention of wearing them and then don’t. Therefore you can find some really great prices. My absolute find was a pair of red boots off Depop, I think I paid around £14 for them. I probably wear them about three times a year or something like that but I’m not mad, I didn’t pay a lot for them and I have them for when I want them.
Another tip: White boots are amazing and they are my favourite. Just be warned, they get dirty so easily and crease quite badly and because they’re white it can be quite obvious.
