The Denim Edit

Let’s talk about denim. And yes, I know another fashion post. Who do I think I am? Some sort of fashionista? lol.

Anyway, the other day when I was looking through my wardrobe, I noticed that you can literally wear denim on your whole body (I know right, deep thoughts). So today, I thought I’d write a blog post all about denim and how I like to wear it.

So let’s just start simple…

Jeans

If you know me, you might have noticed that I am not really a jean gal. It’s not really been my thing, I don’t find them comfy at all and I don’t like how they look on me. But, now that we have started to evolve as humans into new styles of jeans and skinny jeans are no longer one of the only options, I am starting to love jeans.

Flared Jeans – they really have come back kicking and I am all for it. I think they look so stylish but at the same they’re so easy to wear. I think they’re a great item to have when you want to make an outfit more casual but in a stylish way. Fun fact: when I was a child I hated flares because the bottoms would always get wet.

Mom Jeans – I’m a huge fan of the mom jeans. I think they can look really cool and they’re so comfortable. Again, I think they’re a really good way to casual down an outfit. They look great with t-shirts tucked in.

Skinny Jeans – We have a complicated relationship. I used to rock a skinny jean a lot when I was younger (in purple and pink, but let’s not talk about that) but now it’s kind of a unrequited kind of love. They don’t seem to return my feelings towards them. I do love a good skinny jean but they just don’t fit me right. I think it’s important to have a good pair, to go with your nice tops, but finding a good pair is a whole different story…

The Denim Skirt

I love a good denim skirt (emphasis on good). When you find a good denim skirt, that fits you, never let it go. It’s so hard to find a skirt that isn’t too short or long, while also fitting round my waist comfortably. It seems the bigger the skirt, the longer it is, which is a shame as people who are bigger than a size ten should be able to show off their legs too.

They are super cute and go with absolutely everything. You can dress them up and down. I love to keep the outfit plain and wear a patterned pair of tights with them and boots.

The Denim Short

They are great for the summer and they look so good! The problem is, WHERE ARE ALL YOU GIRLS FINDING THESE SHORTS? I can’t find a good and flattering pair anywhere. So, for now. Until I find the perfect denim short, it’s a no from me.

The Denim Dress

I do love a good denim dress. There are so many great options out there and I have been through my fair share of denim dresses (including an unfortunate orange denim dress).

I think my chosen denim dress for the moment is the collar zip dress (I’m sure that’s not the official name for it, but I hope you understand what I mean, otherwise you’ll see in the gallery at the bottom of the page). What’s great about this kind of dress, is the no stress. It’s an outfit within itself, you just wear the dress and because it’s all ready such a statement piece, you keep the rest of the outfit simple.

The Denim Jumpsuit

I am going to be real with you. The only time I’ve worn a denim jumpsuit was when I dressed up as a hippie and wore a denim, pink tie dye boiler suit. I won’t lie to you, yes it looks fire, but also they aren’t the comfiest thing either. The problem with denim is, it’s not a stretchy material, you fit into denim, denim doesn’t fit into you. There isn’t much room in there with you, which doesn’t leave much room for moving. That little problem became much bigger when that night on the way to the club, I slipped on some ice, and ripped the crotch of that jumpsuit open… so because of that, denim jumpsuits are a no from me.

The Denim Playsuit

I love my denim playsuit, because again, it’s already an outfit. All I have to do is find some shoes, that’s it. Unlike the jumpsuit, there’s less pressure on the leg and arms therefore you can move a lot easier, meaning less risk… So a yes from me.

And finally,

The Denim Jacket

I love a denim jacket. I think they are such a staple to have in your wardrobe. They’re so versatile, super casual with a pair of leggings but at the same time, you can shove one over a dress.

I have two, which might seem a little overboard, but one is an oversized and one is cropped. They’re completely different, therefore it’s completely justified for me to have two right?

Denim jackets have caused a little bit of controversy as they are mostly responsible for double denim. How do we feel about that? Personally, I don’t see a problem with it (as long as the denim shades are compatible with each other). I have rocked double denim a few times and went through a stage where I wore it a lot. If you think about it, it’s no different to wearing a co ord.

When writing this post, I did notice a lack of accessories in my edit. I know denim accessories are quite uncommon but I have noticed denim hats. I don’t see any major fashion crimes committed here and these hats are mostly, bucket, caps or baker boy hats and I can imagine it can add something to a plain outfit. I don’t hate it.

Although maybe the thought of a denim hat doesn’t appeal to me because of a denim hat I owned when I was younger has scared me for life (it was atrocious, not because it was denim, more because it was ugly).
